Avi Shaked's new gamble – a site for abstracts

Avi Shaked and journalist Avner Avrahami recently established the www.shvoong.com Web site, which aims to allow any Internet user around the world to summarize a variety of literary subjects and enjoy royalties from the site. The two entrepreneurs met at high school in Netanya. Shaked went on to study engineering and then got involved in a gambling enterprise that turns over tens of millions of dollars. Avrahami went into journalism, and served, among in other capacities, as editor of Maariv's weekend supplement, and editor of the Haaretz supplement. Today, he writes a regular column in Haaretz with his wife, photographer Reli Avrahami. Shvoong's business model allows all users to share in the site's profits. |
