Catalin Ionita - Gripa Aviara nu ii va tine pe romani departe de litoral - 'The Bird Flu will not keep the Romanians away from the seaside'
Although it may seem at least awkward, the Romanians do not seem to care at all about goingto the beach this summer. Even if 26 focal points were found in the seaside counties, still many Romanians do not know what they are really facing with here. It is not for us to decide or judge whether this reaction comes as a result of the lack of understanding of the potential human and deadly hazard or whether this is something in the lines of 'it won't happen to me'.
Curious is also the fact that, one might think, the young people take the situation very calmly and distrustfully. They do not think that the Bird Flu represents a potential danger, even if all the Governmental Agencies - Romanian and international - have drawn the attention upon it.
Should these social behaviour features be the emblem of the current young generation who doesn't seem to think that there are much worse things than the wars and the 'common diseases'? Or does it have something to do just with the Romanian social pattern so much tried along the times of history which, according to a very troubled past, has always succeeded to take a step back and say: 'Even if it happens, we shall know how to overcome it!'.
I guess that sooner or later the human kind will be faced with new issues and, what's more interesting, the issues will be connected to the mental and social survival in a world which seems to be losing its values or seems to be living on ready-made ones.
